The recent news of USA rejecting 15 consignments of mangoes from India got me nearly depressed. I mean who rejects mangoes, yaar? No matter what political issues one has, mangoes cannot be punished. If one is punishing a mango, one is punishing the entire humankind and their taste buds craving for those luscious beauties every summer. Mango is king of fruits in India - phalon ka raja, with India being biggest producer and exporter. Chalo...ek kaam mei toh hum awwal hai, lol ;-)
I'd have been so happy if those crates landed in my doorstep instead of getting destroyed in shores of USA. What a waste! USA could've washed and eaten, instead of destroying them altogether just for some missing paperwork? C'mon? I know its a rich country and can re-order in bulk, but, my heart goes out to those 15 consignments. Phew...I'd have relished them immensely....'slurp' 'slurp' @yumminess...

my box of happiness...
There are many varieties of mango - all grown in different states. But, my favourite is the 'kesar' variety. I swear by it. One just has to eat the kesar variety to really enjoy a mango. I chanced upon it by mistake. Earlier, I didn't know the exact names and would buy any variety. Once, I bought some that were still green. Thinking they were unripe I gave it few days to turn yellow. But even after couple of days, it remained green, By then I had become impatient and decided to eat the green mango itself. Anticipating it to be sour, I sliced my knife throught it. I could not believe what I saw. Inside the green skin, was reddish yellow juiciest mango ever. And it was the sweetest of all mangoes I ever tasted. It was so sweet inspite of it being still green. Anyhow, I found its name to be 'kesar' grown primarily in Gujarat. Boy, I was hooked. Me and Kesar are inseperable since.
Other varieties are Alphonso or hapus, Badami, Langra, Maida, Malgova, Neelam, Himsagar, Himayat, Pairi, Raspuri, Chausa, Banginapalli, Sindhura, Totapuri, Dasheri, almost 1500+ variety - but for me its kesar, kesar...only kesar! YUM!
