Bio - Nandini Deka is an Author (Fiction,Articles) and also a Professional Musician
Based in Bombay,India ( Producer,Composer & Artist)
Dream Jobs - Jobs that will always remain a dream!Since childhood my aims kept changing.
In the begining I wanted to be an IAS,then an Air Hostess, then a model, then a pilot and so on.Nonetheless though I did not become any of these, some of these jobs are something I still admire a lot and wish I could do them atleast once in my lifetime.

Excerpt of the bio taken from author's site.

It was our pleasure to interview Nandini when she volunteered to be interviewed! I discovered along the way that she was very talented and very artistic! She has a love and passion for life and living it. Please give a warm welcome to Nandini!

1. What makes for a good hook in your stories? Where does your inspiration come from?
I write my stories rather bluntly,as it is.I've chosen some controversial subjects too in my stories,so I try to make it as realistic and gripping as possible ( shocking too at times ).So,they are not the usual stuff that you’d normally get to read and I consider that as the unique point of my story telling or ‘hook’ as you put it!
My main genre is ‘social issues’ subjects ( though I write other genres too ).So I get ideas and inspiration from everything that is happening around me.

2. Are you an organized writer? Do you do things like take notes and make lists of characters? Or do you free write and work it out as you go?
Nop! I write free, as ideas or stories come in my mind. Sometimes an idea might struck me while I’m travelling, then I’d just pick my mobile and write them on the “messages” option and save it.Later on I do expand and improvise on it.

3. What is your normal writing day like? Do you write when you are inspired or do you have a schedule?
Theres no typical normal writing day as such. Though I make it a point to write everyday and its not always books, I write lots of articles and blogs too on various subjects.

4. Who is your favorite author and how did they inspire you to write?
Oh!!! There are plently of them. The only inpiration I get from them is seeing the effort and perfection that they’ve put into their work. So,I admire them a lot for their hard work. And Yeah their hard work inspires me to work even harder!

5. It’s easy to see that you have a passion for writing but is there any part of it you don’t like?
I love writing. However after finishing writing I found out one thing - that writing may be a fairly easy job but it comes with a whole package. It includes whole lot of things such as publicity, promotions, marketing etc if you want to put out your work for the world to notice and appreciate.I wont say I dont like it,but its a process that all writers have to be prepared about.

6. Do you make time to read and if you do what are you reading right now?
I do make time to read however I like light readings only.I just finished a book by an Indian author about love & marraige between a couple belonging to two different communities. It was a great funny read.

7. How did you get started in writing contemporary romance/fantasy? Is there personal life experience in the writing?
I have written 9 titles, only one is romance amongst them. The Autograph – It is a love story about a Rock Star and his fan. I always wondered how it’d be if the rockstar falls in love with his fan,the idea slowly took shape of a story.
Hmmm...no! Its pure fiction.

8. Your books have been published with Amazon.com, Does this mean you see the publishing industry headed this way?
Ebook publishing or rather self publishing is definately the future. Many traditional publishing houses closing shop ( due to introduction of popular ebook readers like the Kindle, nook etc ),also due to more and more authors opting to self-pub is a big indicator that self publishing is here to stay.

9. Do you have any online sites where others can read more of your writings?
Yes.I have.Reader can read more of my writings at the following sites.

My Official blog : http://NandiniSpeaks.blogspot.com
My Amazon Author Page for all my books : http://www.amazon.com/author/nandinideka
GoodReads Authors : http://www.goodreads.com/nandinideka

10. Do you have any more stories in the works? What kinds of stories do you plan to write next?
Yes. I’m currently working on a paranormal fiction with a romantic twist.Should be interesting.

11. Who would be your first choice to play Meena in your story "Unhappily Married"?
Unhappily Married is as the title suggest not a very happy story. It has some shocking elements in it as the theme of the story is contemporary “social issues”.So anyone feeling comfortable in doing uncomfortable scenes is welcome to try it.

12. If you could meet anyone from any time who would it be and what would be your first question?
The Piramids!!!! I have to ask that pharoah why he made such a gigantic grave for himself ;)

1. Why do you write?
Writing is a mental exercise for me.Like you need to go to a Gym to keep your body fit, I need to write to keep my mind fit. 2. How many books have you written?
I have written 9 titles so far ( fiction & non-fiction - novellas ).

No. I have my own style.

All my books are my favourite. They are all like my children. However, if I do have to pick I'd choose the ones that have 'social issues' as its theme.

Any art to be perfect has to be polished thoroughly. Writing is a creative art and it can be polished only by writing more..writing good, writing intelligent and writing responsibly

8.What advice would you give someone who is just beginning their own novel
You started it so better finish it now!
Ok...In all seriousness I'd advice them that writing is easy but be prepared for the marathon marketing that you'll have to do later,so write a masterpiece and good luck

9. Do you have any funny and / or interesting stories about how you’ve come up with plots or characters?
My plot and characters were not letting me sleep until I wrote, revised and rewrote them again and again. Trust me,it was not funny or interesting at all! Or was it on second thoughts?

10. Coke or Pepsi?
Thumsup.!!

3. Interview for AmAreway.org website!

1)Hi Nandini Deka, and thanks for being with us to talk about your life as author and professional musician. Can you please tell us more about you?
A : Hi..I’m basicially very creative person so all forms of artistic expressions attracts me a lot. And I consider music or writing as the ultimate forms of artistic creativity.Music and books have been my lifelong partners for as long as I can remember.
I’ve also been tremendously fond of the creative part of both these arts very deeply.Hence I started creating my own work.So far, I have already released a music album ( and am currently also working on few other projects ) as well as have released couple of books/novellas in Amazon Kindle.
My purpose is to let the creative juices flow…..

2) Several of your fictional books seems to be about relationships. How much of them is fiction, and how much real-life experience?
A : My main genre of writing is “social issues” ( though I’ve written other genres too ).Some of my stories dealings with relationships have been inspired by what goes on around me and not necessarily my own experience…but by observing what goes on in other people’s lives, the happy or sad moments that they go through.I’ve dealt with issues like marital problems, divorces, traumatic relationsips etc in my books so though these stories are fictional their ‘base’ is collected from reality.

3) What motivates you to write?
A : I love writing, and that’s the biggest motivation for me to write.I love expressing myself and what better way to express myself to the world than by writing? I have lots of stories or ideas playing in my mind all the time,so I have to write to release them all. Also there are additional perks like name and recognition ,who can resist that?

4) Some of your spiritual books are described as (auto)biographical. Can you share some of your spiritual experiences with us?
A : I have studied and researched a lot on this subject be it spiritual or the paranormal stuff. There are certain experiences/incidents which my family or myself have gone through which I’ve documented in my books.
There are many unexplainable things happening in this world/universe around us that men have no clue about, yet these exist. So its my journey into the unknown….and my attempts to understand it.

5) What do you think about Kindle publishing, and how do you get to spread the voice about your work there?
A : Amazon has given a tremendous opportunity to all us writers to offer our work to the public in a quick hassle free manner.Publishing in Kindle is most easy and if your manuscript is ready you can publish it and make it go live within a few hours. It is much easier than traditional publishing. In Amazon Kindle publishing we ourselves are the authors, the publishers and control everything be it the cover art or the price.
I use the social networking sites like facebook, twitter etc to market and promote my books.

6) How does it feel to be writing for Kindle readers from India? Do you feel the geographical distance makes a difference, even online?
A : Only difference is Amazon keeps a bigger pie in the form of Tax that they deduct for non-US authors.Other than that I’ve learnt a lot as my books has got exposure not just in India but all over US ,UK and other European countries. Its a thrilling experience.

4. Interview for MYO- Make-Your-Offer.org!

Q1: Why did you get into writing?
I’m very creative person and always been attracted to all types of creativity,be it music, art & writing.I've been writing for as long as I can remember. When in school I used to write poems, short stories, essays etc which were published regularly in our school magazines, daily newspapers (children’s corner ), as well as on other mags which were quite popular. So as I grew up the writing ‘bug’ remained with me which got more stronger, creative and ultimately got me into professional writing too.
Writing is like a mental exercise for me.Like you need to go to a Gym to keep your body fit,I need to write to keep my mind fit.I have lots of stories to tell and love to experiment on different genres and writing is the best outlet to release them all out to the world.

Q2: What inspired you to write your book?
The story that was lurking in my mind for quite some time and was getting restless, screaming everyday at me to write it out - I guess that was the inspiration for my book! The story itself!!

Q3: What were the difficulties in writing your book?
Writing was very easy, not difficult at all.But what came after writing was initially little difficult though I learnt the tricks quickly enough.I realised that merely writing the story is not enough, but rather we have to get involved in the whole process of it specially if we are self publishing.
Besides the writing part there are other aspects that come into play which are equally if not more important. E.g Editing,Cover design,Setting Price,Publishing,Promotion,Networking & Marketing – an ebook author has to look into all these aspects.
It can be quite a task if you are new in the e-publishing world. Now with 9 of my titles out things are not difficult as it once was.Infact going through the whole process has made me more confident.

Q4: What are your favourite books?
I’ve always been a light reader not much into heavy literature. So I enjoyed the regular romances, mystery and horror novels.I was big fan of Agatha Christie’s mysteries as well as loved Enid Blyton,Nancy Drews etc.I also love reading theme based books eg Biographies/Autobiographies of great and famous people.

Q5: How many books do you have available for sale?
Currently I have 9 titles on Amazon Kindle for purchase. All these are of different genres such as horror, romance & social issue based subjects.
Complete List can be found here >> http://www.amazon.com/author/nandinideka

Q6: Do you have any plans to write more books?
Oh!Yes..Of course. I’m already in process to completing my next book which shall be out soon.

Q7: Why did you decide to join MYO?
I love interacting with fellow writers as well as readers.MYO is the perfect platform for both.I fell in love with the site when I first saw it,so signed up immediately.
I feel it has great potential to be a destination to look out for ,for Ebook lovers.

Q8: What would you like to see on MYO in the future?
I’m curious about it and would like to see it grow into a popular ebook destination for readers and authors.

Q9: Where do you do most of your writing? (Do you have a special place that you go to?)
On my laptop and sometimes on my mobile phone. The only place I go to while writing is my imagination as I’m weaving up the plots & characters.

You can catch me on my Blog >> http://NandiniSpeaksds.blogspot.com
And on Goodreads >> http://www.goodreads.com/nandinideka

5. Interview for Only True Magic!

1- Why do you write?
I write for creativity, for fun, for knowledge, for expression, for entertainment, for money, for fame, for satisfaction etc etc
Okay Seriously I’ve been writing ever since I held my first pencil at kindergarten in my tiny fingers.I felt a power.I knew at that time itself that I had to push my thoughts into other people’s minds by the power of my pen/pencil.So I wrote furiously. At first it started with scribbles, then it got bit legible and as time passed I found out that people actually enjoyed reading whatever I wrote and gave importance to it.
So encouraged I carried on writing..exploring new thoughts, new ideas, new genres.
Now it has come to a point I’m addicted to writing.I cant live a single day without putting my thoughts into paper.

2- How often do you read for pleasure?
Oh..I’m an avid reader. But I must admit I’m not into heavy literature.I love light reading and as a teenager I had filled up my room with various novels, comics etc
That habit is still in me as I pick up and read anything that I find interesting.I feel that ‘to be a great writer you need to be a great reader first’.

3- Has publishing your own book changed how you view the work of others?
Yes!! To a great extent.I know exactly what all of them has gone through as I went through the same grind.I can connect with them.
I have great respect and admiration for fellow writers and I bow down in respect to the established ones. Its a lot of hard work and their success is an inspiration for me to try and do even better

3- Do you think character or plot is more important to a good story?
Yes of course…without a proper character or plot there’d be no story.Every detail and description matters for the readers to connect, take them deep into the story and keep them engrossed till the end.

4- What is your all-time favourite character, and why?
Now..this is really hard.If you are asking favourite character from my own books then I must say each of them are like my babies I loved creating them. However in a story “The Ideal Relationship” I tried to create a complicated character named Sheona,so it was quite a task taming it..as the character was supposed to be very wild and complex.
And if you are asking favourite character from others books that I’ve read then I found Hamlet’s character quite intruging.

5- What book changed your life? In what way?
I had read a book on Hypnotism by a renowed Hypnotist. All the events and incidents narrated in that non-fiction book really got me interested in knowing the unknown. That book really had a big impact on my life and how I see the world around me.It also explained lot of mysteries that I was curious about.

- What, to you, defines a successful author?
Success is definitely when the book sells million+ copies. But more than that success is when the readers love their work and look out for more and spread it as word-of-mouth publicity.

6- What inspired your (most recent) book?
My recent book is based on “social issues”. I had read a very intersting article about marital problems,so my book “Unhappily Married” is based on that issue.Though the story and events in the book are fictional and takes a totally unexpected twist.

7- What was the best review you ever got?
I’m still waiting for that one…..I’m greedy

8- If you could be any author who would you be, and why?
Well…I’d love to be me only and doing a better job.

9- What book do you wish you'd written?
Oh the vampires, werewolves and those fantasy sci-fi things that people write about.I’ve not tried those genres yet.Recently I read the book ‘Twilight’..I don’t think its that great a book but I should definitely try if only to awaken those dark fantasies lurking in the back of my mind.

10- If you could give one piece of advice to a novice author, what would it be?
Just write……………………….and keep writing!Dont give up…the road to success is tough but you’ll eventually get there.

11- Why do you write in the genre you do?
There are currently 3 alternate genres I’m writing in.Social Issues,Horror/Supernatual And Romance.I’ve been able to create enough material ( by research plus my own imagination ) in all these genres so all my books are covering these genres at the moment. However,I’m hoping to explore other genres too.

12-Describe your Ideal reader
Someone who has read my books /blogs and loved it and is the biggest fan as well as critic of my work

About the Author
