TOP NEWSMAKERS OF KUMBH, 2025

Recently, the Mahakumbh'25 got over at Prayagraj, UP. Although, it had the usual buzz of the various sacred 'shahi/amrit snanas/baths' at the holy confluence ( Ganga, Yamuna & Saraswati ) of Triveni Sangam by Sadhus ( nagas/aghoras ) and common man alike, amidst news and controversies - of stampedes, of deaths, of mamta kulkarnis, of fights between the akhadas esp Kinnar Akhada and many more - some news just hijacked the entire Kumbh updates altogether. These were the result of Kumbh 'discoveries' that went viral overnight. It seemed they had their own mission in the entire kumbh journey and managed to hog the limelight ( and how! ) overshadowing almost everything and everyone else. Lets have a look at those errr...Kumbh Stars??


1. IIT BABA, ABHAY SINGH GREWAL...


Well, this chap is everywhere - dissing his parents, this world, everything...but still latches on to the 'IIT' tag which his parents had a huge hand no doubt in getting him admitted into and passing out from in the first place. He has this weird laugh as he claims he is Mahakal, Krishna, Kalki, Bhagwan and what not. He is been spewing weird theories non-stop ever since the Kumbh Mela started, with every news channels trying to get his byte or even him into their studios - just because he holds this 'IIT tag'. Personally, I feel, he did all these purposely just to gain fame, which he has no doubt achieved. But he does not have the guts to sit and debate or discuss with scholars, as he showed recently when he hit someone in the news studio. On one side, one can sympathize the strain and pain one's parents put their child through to achieve something ~ namely an IIT tag; however, I feel it has dragged on for too long. His nonsense. If he has indeed given up everything in quest of spiritual path, then, he should go and meditate somewhere else - instead of appearing non-stop in social media feeds.


2. ANCHOR HARSHA RICHHARIYA...


She appeared along with the grand processions led by the second largest Niranjani Akhada in Kumbh and instantly grabbed eyeballs. Well, with so much make-up, false dreadlocks and coloured contact lenses one would naturally attract attention especially if one is surrounded by the revered ascetics and other sadhus and sants. When she was interviewed in the chariot itself, it made viewers wonder where did this piece of 'glamour' come from in an otherwise spiritual gathering. The fact that she was a social media influencer already with a large following and famous for silly 'reels', made it a hot recipe for controversy. Nonetheless, whatever the motive, the Kumbh was surely distracted.


3. MONALISA BHONSLE, INDORE...


She was selling 'malas' or 'garlands' in the Kumbh Mela before reporters and vloggers started hounding her and splashed her face everywhere in the internet. Her so-called beautiful 'eyes' became more famous than the entire Kumbh itself. The fame has gone so viral that this lass has even been offered a bollywood movie and is now seen cutting ribbon at various events/ inauguations. Boy, she is surely enjoying her new found fame. Hope she doesn't become the next Ranu Mondal or the Kacha Badam Guy who vanished into oblivion after such crazy overnight fame.


4. BEERBICEPS, RANVEER ALLAHBADIA...


Well, this one was already more famous than all the others combined. And he is certainly not a Kumbh discovery; although, he has certainly been the flag bearer of Sanatan Dharma through his multiple podcasts featuring all types of sadhus and babas. And, the notoriety he gained around this time made him eligible too, to be included in this list. Personally, I'm neutral to the statements he made. Sure, they were crass, incestuous and very offending. But with this generation having a MC/BC/MF gaalis at the tip of their tongue, how are things he uttered any different? Everyone in this planet, including ( I'm sure ) those outraging over his jokes has used a mc/bc/mf swear words at certain time or the other in their lives. So, till that is regarded as okay - I'm not going to join the hypocrite outraging 'herd'.

MOVE OVER POO, UORFI, ORRY COS' HERE COMES SHALINI PASSI!

Couple of years ago it was all about 'main apni favourte hoon' by Poo! Poo who? Who doesn't know Poo? You're not of this world if you don't know our Poo! ( of KKKG )
Then came the half naked woman who ran around Bombay/Mumbai streets esp airports ( strutting her own red carpet ) in some crazy innovative DIY outfits getting the papparazi all bowled and in turn photo-bombing our facebook and instagram feeds relentlessly ( not to mention our 'sensibilities' ) - Uorfi Javed, as we came to know her with the 'badass' tagline - 'badnaam huwa toh kya, naam toh huwa'!
Then came 'mai liver hoon' 'am a liver because I live' 'what work do I do - I work on myself' - the weird cum intriguing ( if one can be both ) Orry! It was Orry ki horry(?) everywhere with his pecuiar accent and equally peculiar infamous selfie poses mainly with celebs and the outrageous crazy claim that he charges 25lakhs per selfie, 'gulps'!

And if we didn't have enough on our platter already and seen it all...here comes another unique specimen who has managed to get the whole internet 'universe' crazy...for some Cleopatra-type dressing ~ a certain Madam ( Senorita?) femme-fatale called ~ Shalini Passi!
Why is she unique? Look for yourself...its not for some shoot that she dresses up like Cleopatra. All the clothes she wears are her own and not hired or sponsored by any designer. Its her style and she actually dresses like that in real life. Whoa! And its not just the dressing she has everyone hooked to the small mobile screens; but for the words she utters. And..man are they captivating or what. You can't beieve the words..and one has to listen twice to actually confirm someone ( she ) has said it. I'm sure the mobile companies are happy as their bandwidths are happily getting spent at bullet-train speed, and, they are inturn happily running to their banks...more subscriptions and recharges, you see. Everyone is happy - its a happy world. All credits to a happy Madame' Passi.

So who exactly is Shalini Passi? Why is she everywhere on the internet these days? Why everytime I open my mobile...she is plastered all over the screen. Why all the bollywood portals are chasing her instead of other actresses. Last I checked, she's not an actress or a model... heck, no one knew of her existance even. So who the hell is Shalini Passi...who has got all our minds fuzzy, eh?

For once, I'm glad she is a socialite who hasn't used any lip-fillers as yet. I'm so done with everyone looking like ducks these days what with huge inflated lips all having gone under the knife. So here Shalini Passi wins some instant points with her refreshing looking natural lips. And when she opens them to speak...a soft voice ( don't get fooled by it though ), her quick wit and self-indulgent articulate one-liners will really keep you hooked and make you smile - she ain't no dumb bimbo as she perhaps looks or projects with all that over-the-top dressing sense. I almost forgive her, because, she is genuinely entertaining and she actually suits those outfits. I can't think of anyone else. Not now, after having seen her. She is really the Cleopatra of modern times ( or maybe the original one too ) keeping everyone hypnotized to her charming and elegant persona. If I ever imagine a Cleopatra..Shalini Passi will make an appearace in that imagination. And thankfully, she is not a show off even while apparently showing off - if you understand what I mean. She actually looks quite naive and innocent behind all that glaring 'glittery' n 'flashy' facade. And its quite refreshing in comparision to all the boldness, snobbery and artificiality we see around.

She claims she lives in a 20,000 sq feet mansion. Yeah..to try out all those outfits and twirl around, I think all that space too will not be quite enough. Her husband earns and she happily spends it. An ideal life. She says, her husband is her world. I believe her. If she lives such an extravagant life she wouldn't be complaining anyways. Her husband is indeed her world who provides her with all that luxury. She collects art and antiques; and does philantrophy. Super rich people do that. She is unapologetic and I really admire this quality. She is living the moment - esp when she goes for an inpromptu swim while still clad in elaborate gowns or simply walking off in middle of an interview citing needing a 'break' leaving the interviewer quite dazed, who does that? She doesn't care what others think. That's so important to be happy - ignore the world and live in your own happy 'bubble'. Negativity affects her skin, she says. And, I agree. The fact that she has a 27 yrs old son will perhaps surprise you...she has certainly maintained herself well - I guess, the effect of never eating any 'flour' in her life as she claims. I could go on and on...but why not check out her interviews yourself. You'll enjoy them for sure. An enigma ( in a positive way ), you bet you've not seen anything like her. She currently apears in the Netflix show of FLOBW ( aka Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives - representling the delhi socialites ) and has already overshadowed the rest of the cast. Love her, You'll not Hate her for sure and certainly can't afford to Ignore her. She is the only entertainly there currently is. An internet icon, she is there all over the place until perhaps another sensation comes along. Cheers n adios till then ~

CURIOUS CASE OF KANGANA RANAUT

Coming from a small city ( guwahati ) myself, I can pretty much understand how Bollywood allures our minds since young, and beckons at us. Most of us ( in smaller towns and cities ), grow up hoping to become a hero or heroine of the silver screen some day, or be connected to Bollywood somehow. No wonder, scores of wannabes leave their homes and travel all the way to Bombay to fulfil their dreams. Bombay, hence, rightly called ~ the city of dreams ( maya-nagri ). When opportunity presented itself to me, I too packed my bags and baggages to come and live in this dream city. Only, in my case, I didn’t come outright to join Bollywood. My father was transferred to this city and I could hardly let this big opportunity go by.

I left my college in my home-town ( after my 11th ), and pursued my studies here. I was inclined to music and hoped someday my that particular dream would get fulfilled. But, I wasn’t overtly aggressive about achieving it. I was also told by many that I could join films or modelling, as I had the looks, but I wasn’t interested in all of that either. As my stay in Bombay, was not really like all others who leave their homes in pursuit of Bollywood. And initially though, I must admit, I was undoubtedly attracted to the glamour attached to the city. However, I grew up more like a Bombai-kaar gradually. After giving my 12th exams, then joining SNDT university, my life was like any other ordinary college student. As such, I could gradually see the façade behind the over-hyped glamour too. And although, I loved the city tremendously, I didn’t have any obsession about being in Bollywood. Hence, though I did eventually complete my dream to make a music album ( after almost 2 decades of living in the city ), I was quite laid back about it, and un-ambitious to make a career out of it. Perhaps, that’s why my life is very different than a Kangana Ranaut, although, there are certain similarities too ( any guesses which ;-).

That brings me to the main topic of this post. Yea..yea...the topic was about Kangana and not me, lol.

So, we all know what's been going on since past few months with regards to the Hrithik and Kangana story. And to be frank, initially, I was more inclined to support her; because, I too know, from experience, how guys sometimes do all the pursuing at first, and then suddenly switch gears, completely denying the relationship. It can really hurt. And yes, many guys are that callous. I know a few myself. So, I was definitely on Kangana's side. Hrithik was all wrong, according to me. It was until, the police took a statement from her, wherein she allegedly said that her iphone fell in water, and so she threw it away. Come on, Kangana. Like really? I know you are rich and can buy hundreds of iphones, but that was the most silliest excuse I've ever heard. Then, of course, came the Adhayen Suman revelations and the world was shell-shocked.

Many has said that Adhyayen has done this for publicity. But somehow, I don't buy it. His revelations has let me think of the actress's life and her link-ups. And she had quite a few of them, most to married men too. She said during her National Award interview, that she was proud, she made it completely on her own. To that, I can't help but think of her affair with Aditya Pancholi, a man double her age, at the beginning of her career. No doubts, he helped her get contacts in the industry then. He apparently had financially helped her buy a house too, and was also footing her sister's acid-attack hospital bills ( as claimed by him, a fact, that Kangana didn't deny either ). The affair ( rumored abusive ) went wrong; but it happened, and neither party denied it too. Kangana, of course, left him in the end. But this relationship made me wonder, why she had to sleep with a married man in the first place? Also one, who was accused of having raped Pooja Bedi's maid at one point. Only thing I can understand from all of this is, Kangana simply used the man to gain a foothold in the industry ~ to survive. And if a girl can do this, she can do anything to get ahead.

Next, soon after, she had the Adhyayen romance episode. Of course, we know all the details now, but that time, we see that soon after her break-up with Adhyayen, she had another affair with Ajay Devgan ( a married man again ). It is rumoured, the affair was a strictly no-strings-attached one ( although, he recommended her in many of his films ). Ajay, however, dumped her when she became emotional, and cut-off all ties. Emotional??? Well, I'm sure Ajay Devgan too must be surely having some really interesting revelations to make. It'll make the curious case of Kangana so much clearer, what say? Or maybe the guy Nicholas, she had next.

Moving on to the 3rd married man - Hrithik. According to Adhyayen, she was eyeing him, even when she was with the former. That says a lot about the woman. Being attractive, I'm sure Hrithik must've fallen for her too. Or maybe NOT, as perhaps he ( later ) decided. But, whatever the case might be, after watching her two interviews ( in IndiaToday and NDTV ), I must say, she hasn't convinced me that she is innocent. That said, seeing her life, her alleged link-ups - I don't envy her. Rather, I pity her ~ that for success, one makes such compromises. There must be so many like her, who made similar journeys, but couldn't make it big, like she did. Her films of course, are a delight to watch. No wonder, she has so many fans and is rightly the highest paid actress. Its just that, I wish, she really had made it own her own without having to sleep around. Men too have numerous affairs. But, being a female, I expected more respectability.

Oh well...so, the curious case of Kangana Ranaut stays 'curious'. She is proud to be a psychopath, whore and witch. At least, she is honest about that - although, in a roundabout manner, without really accepting or answering any of the accusations. But her this declaration ~ 'I am not ashamed of anything, not my past, not my affairs, not my body and most definitely not my desire' does say it all.

UDATE : So, she becomes the MP! I rest my case, ma'am :s

ALL INDIA BAKCHOD ROAST AT #SMWMUMBAI

Last year in Oct, I had attended the #SMWMumbai event, and it was at that event and that too in the last session, when I actually got to know about AIB - the All India Bakchod comedy group. I had no prior knowledge of the group; that it was so famous with such a huge fan following on almost all the social media platforms ( thus, explaining its presence too in the Social Media Week, that I was attending ). Well, well...I'm little anti-social it seems or whatever it is called, that I get to know about these kinda things pretty late.

So, the session I attended was "BOLLYWOOD TROLLING: FUN & NEW AGE" Hosted by Express Group from 8:15 PM - 9:00 PM with the panel comprising of Huma Quereshi ( Actress, Bollywood ), Ritesh Deshmukh ( Architect, Film Producer & Actor, Bollywood ), Gursimran Khamba ( Co-founder, All India Bakchod ), Rohan Joshi ( Writer, Stand-up Comedian ), Tanmay Bhat ( Co founder, All India Bakchod ) and Ashish Shakya ( Humour columnist, Hindustan Times ). About the session it said - Genre Independent Lifestyle & Culture - "Not all panel discussions are meant to ‘chew your brain’. Here is a fun session to troll on Bollywood and to discuss on how Bollywood has gone more social and conversational with the emerge of Social Media. Caution: Join us only if you enjoy some serious fun."

Knowing not what to expect, I sat waiting for the session to start, glancing at my watch rather frequently as it was getting quite late. Then all of a sudden, three hippie-types boys entered the hall - all in their shorts/three-quarters with hairy legs; and all looking quite weird too, if I may say so. Next came in ~ the Stars - Huma & Ritesh. No sooner did the trio ( of AIB ) opened their mouths, the entire audience got into a rofl-mode. Their leg-pulling of the stars, inane jokes ( with or without double meanings ) etc, ruled the next hour or so, leaving everyone in splits. I enjoyed it thoroughly and clicked lots of pictures/videos. Once, one understands the psyche of the jokes and the jokers ( that they are really ), one won't really get offended as such. Because, it was all harmless. And the name itself of the group - All India Bakchod, means don't expect any seriousness from them; they're here do all types of bakchodi ( which they did and which they are loved for, by their fans ).

AIB #SMWMumbai Event
However, on 28th Jan they aired the now infamous show 'AIB Knockout' ( featuring Karan Johar, Arjun Kapoor & Ranveer Singh ), that caught the ire of many especially one Akhilesh Tiwari, president of Brahman Ekta Sanstha in Mumbai. He filed a written complaint at Sakinaka police station on 2 February 2015 against the show, for using filthy and abusive language in the AIB Knockout. The show also apparently made several digs at certain communities ( christians/LGBT ), and few others including bollywood. More complaints followed suit, and the group pulled down their video ( on their own ). People like Aamir Khan & Salman Khan too got embroiled into the controversy, by commenting against it, without even perhaps seeing the show. And when matters like FIR, police, courts etc come in, things do get serious. Ironically, in that show ( which I had attended previously ), they had mentioned about getting all kinds of warnings/complaints etc from almost everyone; and this time they landed in rather hot-soup for real as well.

With everyone jumping into the bandwagon of either support or oppose, I can only say that since the video was in YouTube ( and not on regular TV Channels ), it was entirely in the audience's hands whether to see it or not. Its entirely the viewers choice really, as it was not forced down anyone's throat. And having seen a live-show of their's myself ( albeit a milder one perhaps compared to AIB Knockout ), I know, their humour may raise your eyebrows a bit, or even make you bit uncomfortable or it is really crass/cheap; but its all really harmless. And having written the post, I must admit that I too haven't see it ( the AIB Knockout video, that is ), but I certainly don't like this kinda encroachment on freedom of expression. Yes, one should be responsible in their freedom of speech, but then one also has option 'not to see or hear'. AIB has written an apology letter as well; but in my opinion, people should stop dictating/deciding for others what one should or should not see. When it is in social media, one has option of closing the browser for heaven's sake!
