As I was returning home from the market today, I had a huge smile in my face. The streets were filled with people. The mood was all of cheer and happiness. Colourful glowing lanterns, of every shape and sizes, hung everywhere in the busy lanes for sale. Lots and lots of earthen diyas, as well as fancy lamps were on display too around the streets; and not to mention, the sweets, dry-fruits and nut boxes that everyone were buying in glee, that too, in bulk. And yes, the firework-shops were getting lined up with long queues of people, as well. If you didn’t get it by now, then, let me yell it out to you – it’s the festive season folks! And primarily, the occasion of Diwali ( that’s just around the corner ) being in the focus; all the buzz were thus undoubtedly, because of it. Bombay (Mumbai ) becomes a totally different city during Diwali time, and I’m sure other cities and towns must be gearing up as well ~ for this extravagant festival of lights, fire-crackers and much more!
I’m not a religious person, but still, its Diwali time that I look most forward to, in the entire year. Any guesses, why? Well, India is a country of colourful festivals, and even if you might not be religious in your beliefs or practices yourself, you do get sucked into the whole festivity of it all. I get sucked into it primarily because of two reasons; one being the delicious cuisines I get to taste, that’s specially prepared during festival time, and the other being the gifts I get. Its tough to choose between the two; but the second reason, of course, gets more importance in the end. Oh..Come on, now… who doesn’t love gifts? You’d be lying if you say, you don’t.
Talking of buying gifts, I must say however, it becomes a herculean task treading these markets to get the product of your choice, with the crowds pushing and shoving you around. Hence, my saviour comes in the form of online shopping portal - Flipkart. After years of enjoying the thrill of receiving gifts, this time however, I’m planning to do a little bit of the gifting part myself too. Indeed, gifting strengthens the bond between people, and increases happiness. My niece has been cribbing for a new smartphone, for quite some time now! The month was April. The whole world watched at their television sets without blinking their eyes. The mountains had sent tremors that reached far and wide, turning life upside down in many parts. I too watch in awe, at the might of the Himalayas. I lived far away and it didn’t affect me physically. But mentally it did. It had been my long cherished dream to go up the Himalayas, but some or the other excuse always came up, postponing all my plans. However, this incident that created havoc everywhere seemed to beacon at me. It was calling out to me. And I couldn't resist. Such was the urge that within the next month itself, I found myself planning a trip. It was as though some external forces were totally in control of me and directing me towards it ~ the Himalayas. I just had to go there...
Within moments of making my up mind, I had my tickets in my hand and an elaborate itinerary mapped out as well. I was making a Solo Trip. Not many girls would get that travel-urge now, would they? And certainly not alone, that too in a mountainous terrain that can anytime get tricky and treacherous. But my mind was made up. Come hell’th or shine, it was the Himalayas to be.
Immediately before the trip, I also got to my favourite site to buy me a pair of good trekking shoes. My first steps into the Himalayas definitely needed an awesome one. My Quechua Forclaz Black Hiking & Trekking shoes is something to really envy, folks. The stylish shoes are just perfect for the mountains. Talking of Shoes, I came across some good ones from Puma too, suggested by another Blogger in her wishlist, but that's for another time perhaps ;-) So, with my shoes done, I got on to other things – safety and survival equipment, rain-proof gear etc.

All from flipkart! Yes, Flipkart was fulfilling my every wish with a mere click of a button, and suggesting too what else I might need. Their Travel Store got me all my things and I was all set. No sooner, I found myself in the mountains as well. God bless a 'determined' mind like mine :-)
While travelling though I started missing something terribly. I have a backpack, bought long ago, and during my trek-gear shopping earlier, I had thought there was no need to buy one as I was carrying that as well as another bag. But up in the mountains, I found it bit tedious to carry two bags. I so wished I had bought a Rucksack too, because they are larger than backpacks and can carry pretty much everything in it – be it tent, sleeping bags, clothes, utensils, shoes and other miscellany required in trekking trips. These rucksacks have padded shoulder-straps as well as a waist strap, thus, one do not feel the weight much and is very comfortable to carry around and is organized too.
Though my trip was pleasant and I had a ballistic time up in the hills, this little ignorance on my part played a bit spoil sport. However, being the travel freak that I am, I’m not done with the mountains yet. Yes, I’ll definitely go up there again and very soon too. However, this time I’ll buy me a good rucksack, preferably the President Hulk Camouflaged one ( see pic above ), to be one with all the greenery and wilderness there. If you are into travel or know anyone who loves trekking, this product can be a great gift as well ~ to yourself as well as the other; like I’m gifting myself one! Go for a 70 ltrs capacity, if going longer duration trips and a 50 Ltrs will suffice for shorter duration. Stay safe and enjoy the mountains :-)

Somewhere in the wilderness of the gigantic and overwhelming Himalayas!
I remember when I was a child and later a teenager; I'd sulk for days on end. The things I wanted demanded from my parents, would take months if not years to reach me. Would you believe the first doll that I wanted so much, as a kid, but got ultimately was - when I reached almost 16 yrs of age. How embarrasing, huh! Well, those days there was no internet or smartphone; e-commerce was unheard of. Even Malls were scarce. What existed were market-places, where one shop would be at a far-off distance from the other, and all scattered and mixed. My parents would have to hunt stores on end, without any luck, of finding the exact product I wanted, mostly seen from television ads or what my other friends had. Even for regular puja or any festival shopping for the entire family, we'd have to dedicate an entire day, out in the heat and crowds, going from shop to shop, tired and exhausted trying to find the exact garment or other item we needed. A single store would not stock everything we needed, so we'd have to go to the next and the next...asking, if they had the particular item we wanted. Imagine the chaos, with a huge family in tow, hunting their own specific products ~ all trying to go in different directions :| Shopping was definitely not fun those days. It was tedious, tiring, frustrating and very expensive as there’d be added travel and carriage expenses; not to mention everyone would end up being hungry, so more money spent on food while shopping.
When I saw Flipkart’s recent video, I instantly wished I was Yashi ( the little girl in the video ), and I had a wish-master when I was young. Oh..How much fun life would’ve been then! Well, no complaints, as I do make full use of Flipkart’s wish-master now and there’s absolutely no regrets.
