She had fallen in love with that sunset, yet, this same sunset tormented her each living day.
There was no escaping it. It was always there - same time, same place reminding her ~ of her failure.
Each day, when the sky went ablaze with bright red-orange and yellow hues, inside, her heart would burn; the pain so writhing, and raw.
If only, she could change things; if only she could undo the mistake - of admiring the mesmerizing sunset, that fateful day.
If only she was more careful, her baby wouldn't have crawled to the pool and drowned.

I wasn't expecting that ending. Wow! - Sandra Crook
ReplyDeleteHow awful.
ReplyDeleteregret always comes last.
ReplyDeleteA parent's worst nightmare is to lose their child. Especially like this. Heartbreaking Nandini.
ReplyDeleteThe sunset as a trigger is a great idea
ReplyDeleteWhat a horrible association to have with a beautiful sky. One slip up can ruin a life forever. I wish she could go back and change that moment. Really good, though tragic, tale, Nandini.
ReplyDeleteDear Nandini,
ReplyDeleteThis is a heartbreaker. Well done.
