Still Life, 1907 by John Frederick Peto
From outside, she pointed me
towards the village inn,
She told me softly, that's still where
her belongings hung,
She needed those,
very urgent,
Cos' it was otherwise
getting difficult...
Taking pity on her
I stroll in,
Though a doubt lurks,
Why she herself donot come in,
As I enquire,
the inn-keeper but smiles,
Oh, you too has been sent
by the spirit outside...
Decades ago she jumped off
the nearby bridge,
yet, comes everyday
to collect her belongings.
