VIRGINITY - A CHARACTER CERTIFICATE?

Topic : Virginity should not be regarded as a girl's character certificate according to me. What's your take?

When Salman Khan recently announced to the world that he was a 'virgin' the earth stopped rotating for a second, and my eyes popped out of my head. Considering the number of actresses he has been linked with, it was simply unbelievable. He has such a bad-boy image that such a declaration is bound to make you 'rofl'. Yet, what if its true?

After all, he has been the one who looked after his old parents for long time and even helped out his brother's careers ( also helped many co-stars ). His father once said, that Salman looks for his mother in any girl that he dates. If he doesn't find, then there's problem. Plus, he paints and paints ~ an artistic trait in him we weren't aware of earlier. He also does lots of charity via his Being Human foundation.

Anyhow, assuming this declaration was true - I found myself looking at him differently. I tried hunting positives in him. So, yes...maybe 'virginity' for me is a character certificate of sorts. A different sort of certificate that is. We all know how brash Salman is....he beats up journalists, have a nasty temper, even had cases filed against him - but on a personal level he is different untouched.

Now before you yell at me, let me tell my own perspective. I never used to get attracted to anyone if I heard even a slightest rumour that the boy was friendly with someone else or had a gf. I'd dig up as much info I could get about the person's past. I always wondered why girls got attracted to married men. Why not a 'fresh unused' man? So, if my thoughts are like that err... bit conservative kinda, to some extent I understand if another person too prefers a virgin.

But "Do unto others as you would wish to have done unto you." I feel if you are a virgin yourself, only then expect a virgin for yourself. If you've allowed yourself to be used and had your fun ( with multiple partners ), then don't practice hypocrisy. If you regard a non-virgin girl as promiscuous, then you are one too if you ain't a virgin yourself. And these days with lots of sexually transmitted diseases around ( with risks of AIDS ), both sides need to be completely honest with one another.

P.S : I gave Salman Khan example cos' he is the only alleged virgin boy that I know of :D

  2. I totally disagree that a virgin seeks a virgin.. I am not sure if ppl are talking about multiple partners and STDs.. but what about a girl/boy who falls in love and loses virginity and gets cheated? So that's it?? they are certified as non virgins for the rest of their life and looked down?? I believe belief, commitment, love are the most important things for a marriage.. not a purity certificate.. how about a boy marries a virgin only to discover she is sleeping with other men after marriage??? on the hand, think of a girl who fell in love multiple times, every time believing it to be her true love only to get cheated or broken but she can be very faithful to her husband after marriage.. so whats more important? past or future? we cant judge anyone based on their past actions.. character certificate cant be given based on their virginity but on lots of other factors.. I don't think in the present day boys or girls care much about their spouse's past affairs or virginity record sheet.. as long as there is trust and love in a relationship it works out just fine.. if not, a virgin can also cheat on his wife.. In my opinion :)

    1. heya shruthi...thanks and welcome.....virgin seeking a virgin was directed at those who seek virgin by being non-virgin themselves...more the ones who practice double standards and not the ones having genuine reasons as you stated. Of course, everyone has their own preferences when it comes to their personal lives.

  3. That's a valid argument and the most balanced among all the entries. :)

    2. if his opinion was same like your thinking then maybe you'd have considered it balanced too.....anyways i read other's posts too...i dont think my points were that contradictory at all..even i've said if the guy is not virgin himself, he has no right to demand the same....but as some people said oh..its just a hymen..its just a tissue...i differ on that...i think its very personal matter and not frivolous stuff that can be offered to all and be casual about it....just as a person has freedom to choose what they want to do..they have a choice too whether they want virgin/non virgin as partner..its their right...nothing wrong in it...what work for some may not work for others...and both are right in their own place :-)

    3. ND, Like you, even I feel if the guy is non-virgin he has no right to demand the same. I had planned to write about this point about the choice of people what they want- whether virgin/non-virgin - in my post! :)

  5. I've already written my view on this topic in a blog. So no repetition here. But one question that I'd like to raise is whether virginity makes Salman Khan any better as a person.

  7. It is nice to read an opinion that is original.. and true in the sense that was the expectation of both men & women a few decades back of their life partner.
Agree with you also on the hypocrisy part..

  8. That's pretty cool! I never knew that Salman made this statement :D :D . But like you said - What if it is true?

And as for the question whether it is a character certificate, I really do feel very sorry for people who are hell bent on some words which don't have as much significance as they think. The world they are looking at is long gone...

  10. It is an interesting entry. Virginity is the most highlighted topic for discussion these days. I strongly belief, only the implementation of our "bring for change" thoughts with societal acceptance can start erasing the ambiguous thought process, else this topic has no ending....

  11. hmmmmmm I do agree that it is a hypocracy if one is not a virgin and demands a virgin..

but then losing it is also not a crime, some times people meet and they do what they do .. then they realise they are not meant to be together os they move on.. now that is not a crime ..

but i dont understand whats the big deal about this all .. its all a farce and I seriously would think a MILLION times if someone asks me that question before having a relation ..
