Naina kept looking at the wall clock...it was normally not her habit to check the time every few minutes.
But, today was special...she had a huge surprise waiting for her mother.
She had baked a cake, the most colourful cake ever...for her mother, who'd return from work any moment.
The decorations were lovely and she was sure it'd make her mother proud and happy.
Her mother had no idea secretly Naina would eagerly learn cooking lessons; anything to be of use.
Indebted forever as she was - since her mother signed those adoption papers and brought her home.

Nandini, I love the sentiments in your story. I can only imagine what Naina's circumstances were before she was adopted.

ReplyDeleteAww what a touching story
ReplyDeleteWow, such a hauntingly poignant line. 💔 It immediately evokes a sense of lifelong obligation and the complicated, heavy emotions tied to family and identity. The phrasing—“Indebted forever as she was”—carries such weight, and the revelation of the mother’s role in the adoption papers adds depth, tension, and a quiet, simmering conflict. It’s the kind of line that lingers in the mind, demanding the reader to feel the character’s inner world.
ReplyDeleteThe cake is a beautifully bold show of appreciation!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much @@all!!! Really appreciate all your lovely comments...
