She clutched the ticket in her hands and looked out the window.
Whole night she hadn't slept or moved, only watched as the outsides changed from pitch black to early dawn.
She didn't know where she was going, - ticket to wherever the train was going, she had said at the counter; and jumped in when the train arrived.
She didn't want to think why she made that decision, but her sore face kept reminding; it was an everyday occurrence.
She endured till she could, but last evening had tipped all scales.
For her own survival, she had to escape, anywhere...wherever!

Better late than never. A sorry tale but a hopeful ending.
ReplyDeleteThe bleakness is well-conveyed
ReplyDeleteFrom the photo it looks like she reached a nice village.
ReplyDeleteGood for her! A hopeful Six.
ReplyDeleteNandini, you do a good job of creating a sense of urgency for your MC's story.
ReplyDeleteI think the idea of getting on a train to do wherever tantalizes all of us from time to time. Once I got on the wrong train and almost ended up in a different country by accident.
ReplyDeleteI commend her for making a move to find safety. What a painful place when wherever the train is going is a better option. -Angela
ReplyDeleteSuch a sad state of affairs. Been her, minus the exotic train ride, and yes it sucks- but it is also the beginning of a whole new life.
ReplyDeleteMay she find sanctuary.
ReplyDeleteHope she makes it out.
