They had to make the escape with whatever they had.. but, the boatman flatly refused to load them into his boat.
'Only humans,' he repeated, 'and fast please; there's others waiting... its a long journey.'
Taking a last look at her only belongings, Mary jumped into the boat, escape was more important than those belongings at the moment.
The land of freedom beckoned, and she made that choice.

Exactly so, Nandini. Unfortunately since then the ancestor gave birth to a baby that has morphed into a soulless monster.
