I was sitting fat and happy,
With my vibrant voluble family,
From flowers we all had bloomed,
Our vines crept in the garden merrily.
Look! Why is she crying?
My fat cousin pointed,
At a gal sitting in one corner,
I stretched to get a better glimpse.
What was wrong, did I wonder.
Dressed in old tattered clothes,
The gal was washing heaps of dishes,
Her step-mother stood ordering nasty,
Two evil sisters added to her worries!
They piled up chores and chores of work,
For the gal to do all alone,
They themselves dressed pretty,
To attend the Prince’s town-hall ball.
The Prince had declared, he’d marry,
The prettiest gal chosen from many,
So, all in their finery went to attend,
While the poor gal cried unhappily.
She too wanted to go to the ball,
She too wanted to marry the Prince,
But to forever swop and clean,
Was all her destiny, it seemed.
Then suddenly the skies sparkled,
And the grey clouds parted,
A fairy God-mother passing by,
Heard the gal’s tearful cries.
Poor gal, she thought,
And instantly wanted to help,
Get some mice and a pumpkin, she asked,
Within moments, picked I was.
The fairy then waved her magic wand,
The mice turned into white horses,
And as soon as she turned towards me,
I was turned into a glorious carriage.
The gal too was dressed now,
Beautiful gown and glass sandals,
She got in me gently, and we rode,
Her dreams finally fulfilled.
