HER RETURN

His eyes, enigmatic; as everyday he watched,
From near the kitchen-sink, his favourite spot.
Hurrying as she did; over breakfast, and then, dressing,
For the hectic day, that loomed ahead!
He had so much love for her, as his eyes would swell with pride,
Her achievements, no mean feat, in this men-dominated world.
All alone, she did a man’s job; repairing faulty machines to car-wrecks,
No challenge made her cow down; to no fear did she grovel.

He waited in his same spot, awaiting her usual return,
Little did he know a crash outside, left nothing of her, but her sandal.

Nicely done. I love that you wrote this from the perspective of a little soul waiting for a companion what will never return. The imagery of the shoe being all that's left of a person is chilling.
