THE WRITER

The furniture came along too, when Darla bought her quaint little apartment. Cash trapped as she was, she thought it was a good bargain. A struggling writer, she always worried where her next meal would come from if at all.

Her manuscripts rejected often, she feared, her dreams to make it big would never come true.

Surprisingly, after she moved she began getting assignments regularly. And grew famous! But, she had a secret behind that success.

The old desk where she began working belonged to the famous writer who had died in that apartment mysteriously. His spirit wrote through her.

Sounds like she lucked out with that. I'm not sure how I would feel about that, someone writing through me, although if I was the one getting famous... :) That's an intriguing idea, especially if her style was similar to his and she was later accused of plagiarism.

  6. Nandini, My first comment disappeared so hears a second one. Well written story. I don't know if I'd want to be her. She'll have to stay in that apartment with that same desk for the rest of her writing life. That's kind of a handicap. Well done. : ) ---Susan

  8. I dream of a spirit who will inspire me like that! For now, I am on my own.
    Nice story.

  9. Clever one. Does the spirit divulge the cause of death? And is the current incumbent facing a similar fate? We need to be told.

Dear Nandini, Good job, I wish I had a desk like that - I do have a desk, that was my Grandfathers and then my Daddy's - now mine. It has a "D" engraved in it. Beautiful old desk, drop down to write with drawers too and hiding places. Hey - maybe this used to belong to a writer - Cool! Have a good week! Nan :)
