THE LAST MESSAGE

Keith Haring

Trying hard to grasp her message,
he stared at her last canvas,
A sobered soul; he hoped to do,
the ultimate penance.

He remembered the time, eons ago,
when their love blossomed,
Blindly trusting, when she had gifted,
her virginity treasured.
Devil in disguise, he was;
lust, his one and only urge,
Once conquered, she was dumped,
like a pile of dirty trash.

He went about his life chasing,
pleasures and conquests myriad,
While she struggled to breath-again,
her life shattered.
In art, she found a reason
to live again,
Carrying forever a secret along,
her craft too, earned fame.

Years on, life had taught him
lessons galore,
Wanted to mend whom he crushed,
in a guilt trip now.
She was no more,
with sadness, he learnt,
But had left him a secret,
important.

He stared and stared,
trying to unveil the mystery,
Did images of those children,
in that last message, revealed a story?
As if on a cue, something striked his mind.
Did she leave behind, in this world,
their love-child?

What should've been filled with
happiness and blessings,
Was now he regretted, something,
he had grossly sinned.
