Z - ZZZZzzz.... AND SHE SLEPT THE ETERNAL SLEEP

:: Today is Z - ZZZzzz.. ::

As the paraffin-wax melted away, a wisp of something strong filled the air. Something so different; unlike any other day.

The clock ticked away on the wall. With every second that passed, the candle shrank in size.

She looked helplessly from her bed at the candle. Its end was near. Unable to get up and no one to call for help; she lay paralyzed. Her breathing grew heavier and more struggled, with every passing moment.

In its last stage, the candle flickered; so did her breath. As its flame died, she closed her eyes too and slept – the eternal sleep!

  1. Did the smell kill her or was her life somehow tied to the candle? And who lit the candle? Eerie. A small thing--her breath wouldn't struggle, although she would struggle for breath; maybe "more difficult."

  3. Nandini, Interesting story that leaves me wondering as it did Janet. It seems that it's a candle that's giving off noxious fumes meant to kill the woman, which it succeeds in doing. Well written and it would be a great hook for a longer story, perhaps a mystery. :)

    Interesting. I agree with Joshi and Janet. (P.S. you might want to change the clocked ticked to the clock ticked)

  5. Dear Nandini,

    Like Janet, I wonder if her life is tied to the candle or the candle is a metaphor. Good one.
