B - BACK!

:: Today is B - BACK ::

“She’s back! We’ve told her repeatedly, there’s no suitable role. But she doesn’t understand. She keeps coming back for that one last chance!” The production assistant said, nearly frustrated, at the sight of the old lady hanging by the stage hopefully.

Martha had her make-up and costume on. Everything was ready; everything so familiar. She stood eagerly, re-living old memories when the stage was her domain and she ruled it. People came from afar just to see Martha – the star! She longed to be back on-stage, under the arc-lights facing the audience.

Alas! The new generation just couldn’t understand that!

  1. Dear Nandini,

    You've captured the mind of the "has been". That would be a hard place to be in.

    Shalom,

  2. Wow. Just too good. As Rochelle says, this is a hard place to be in. And we see it so often even in the stupid corporate world. Sad indeed! Well written post.

    Wow. Very good. Shades of Norma Desmond. Last line was good, too, because we DO run into that a lot only with the way things are done. Nice piece!

    I really like her persistence. I hope they let her back on the stage, even in a small role. They might, just to make her stop auditioning. :)

    Man...poor Martha!! To re-live one's glory days is the dream of many people. Too bad no one has the patience or desire to help that dream come true!

  13. Maybe they'll give her a bit part for her persistence. Sad to say, it happens to many in that business. Nicely told!
