O - OMG!

Today is O!! @a-z challenge
OMG! Today is Wednesday.
OMG! Today's alphabet it 'O'
OMG! I have to write again.
OMG! What to write. I've no clue.
OMG! Need some ideas.
OMG! Help me! My mind is blank.

As I was chanting OMG! above I remembered OMI. So, here's a bit about OMI - the cute little baby and OMG! What I had done!

OMI was a little baby girl less than a year old. The family had shifted newly to our neighbourhood. Her baby cheeks pink and round like an apple, OMI was the most cutest baby I had ever seen. Her mother would make her wear cute frilly dresses and would always bring her for an evening stroll around our compound, and we'd all gather around the baby, admiring, pulling and cuddling at her cheeks.
I was about 7-8 years old then, and I was strictly not allowed to carry OMI even once, lest I didn't manage. However, my sister and mother would take turns and carry the baby around and I'd be really pissed off. I wanted to hold OMI too, she was just so adorable. But they considered me too young to hold the baby yet.

One day their maid came carrying OMI with her for the usual evening stroll. I saw them from a distance and at once went to cuddle OMI's cute cheeks and do some childish banter. I saw that no one else was around, not OMI's mother nor mine or my sister. So, here was my chance I thought. I asked the maid to let me carry OMI once. As a little girl myself, I was too eager to act grown up then. I promised the maid that I would stand absolutely still while I carried her and pleaded her to let me carry only for 2-3 minutes. The maid gave OMI to me and for first the time in my life, I carried a baby! It was such a surreal feeling. She was soft and cuddly, smelling of johnson baby powder, looking just like a doll. I kept my promise and stood still holding her, very careful.

Just then my sister appeared out of nowhere and saw that I was carrying the baby. She at once started coming towards us and ordered me to hand the baby back to the maid.

I screamed a big NO! And to everyone's horror I started running as I wanted to hold OMI for a bit longer. And before I knew it, I tripped headlong on the mini speed-breaker and had fallen flat on my face on the hard compound ground made of solid concrete, along with the baby. The baby nearly touching the ground and me on top.
Naturally, OMI started wailing at the top of her voice. It was a miracle that my hand was somehow beneath her head, else I shudder to think what'd have happened to her, incase her head touched the ground. It was quite a nasty fall and I had bruises all over my knees and elbow. But thanks to almighty, nothing happened to OMI, though things could've have been lot worse as her position was more dangerous.

That day I felt very guilty for not listening to the elders. OMI's family ran and came when they heard her cry and immediately took her to check if she was okay. She was, and we all breathed a sigh of relief. Once I thought, they might send me to jail even for falling and almost dropping the baby, lol.
That incident however shook me a lot, cos for years later, I'd not carry anyone's child, only admire from a distance.
It was really OMG! a lesson learnt.
